As of July 1, 2014, the Bluewater Sustainability Initiative (BSI) has ceased operation. Since 2006, BSI's volunteer board, staff, partners, supporters and funders have laid the groundwork to help make Sarnia-Lambton a green, bio-hybrid community. Our collective efforts have achieved a long list of accomplishments. BSI played a significant role in the development of bio-hybrid chemistry and alternative energy technologies in Sarnia. The organization also contributed to the Integrated Community Sustainability Plans adopted by the County of Lambton and City of Sarnia.

Despite the closure of BSI, there is still much work to be done. Thankfully the community has stepped-up and many of these projects will continue. Bioindustrial Innovation Canada and its partners, the municipal governments and BSI Gen Y are each demonstrating sustainability leadership each in their own ways. Many large companies now have sustainability offices and Corporate Social Responsibility plans. Local organizations will continue to produce the Community Snapshot report, award sustainability champions and educate the public on environmental issues. The County of Lambton will host an online directory of "green" organizations in Sarnia-Lambton.

On behalf of everyone at BSI, thank you for supporting and contributing to the Bluewater Sustainability Initiative over the years and for making Sarnia-Lambton a more sustainable community.
